However, opting to incorporate edging in your landscaping is not merely aesthetic. Garden edging can also help in limiting soil erosion in your demarcated areas, which functions to ensure your plants and flower flourish. Moreover, you do not have to use conventional materials such as concrete kerbing to create garden edging. Here are a few supplies that you can repurpose and use as your garden edging.
Stones
Typically, when stones are included in landscaping, they are usually part of a rock garden. Nevertheless, this will require the use of large boulders and colourful rocks that will function to enhance the aesthetics of your garden. A more affordable way of including rocks in your garden design would be by using natural stones to create an edge. The first thing to do would be to collect as many country rocks as you can. Once you have your rocks, dig shallow trenches around the perimeter of the area that you would like to edge off. You can then fill these trenches with the rocks to create a barrier for your flowers, vegetables and more. To make your edging stand out, you could opt to paint the stones beforehand then fill them into the trenches once they have dried.
Broken ceramic and clay pottery
Another inexpensive supply you could use for your garden edging is ceramic and clay pottery that is no longer useful due to breaks and cracks. Typically, homeowners will get rid of their broken ceramic or clay planters, as they can no longer hold soil. Instead of getting rid of these receptacles, you should embed them in the ground to create garden edging. You have a couple of ways that you could make use of the broken pottery. The first would be to bury them whole, then fill them up with decorative pebbles to secure them in place. On the other hand, you could break the ceramic and clay planters into large shards, then arrange the pieces as a makeshift fence around the area you would like to install garden edging.
Industrial building supplies
If you have recently renovated your home, you may find you have a supply of extra industrial materials such as pipes sections, PVC materials, steel boxes and more. Rather than throwing them away, you could repurpose them to function as your garden edging. Partially bury the pipe sections or steel boxes into the ground, and fill them up with soil. You can then plant succulents on top of the industrial supplies to soften their appearance.
While lots of people pay a lot of attention to the interior of their home, they do not pay the same level of attention to the landscaping of the land and gardens which surround their home.
